Former president of Ghana, John Mahama has appealed to president Akuffo Addo and Alhaji Mamudu Bawumia the vice president to have sympathy on a victim of the Ayawaso West Wagon shooting and pay compensation from the state to him, He said if is it not done the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) will pay when they come to power. Visiting the victim Ishaw Yaro who had undergone multiple surgery on his deformed leg as a result of the shooting incident, he said he will be a hero of the NDC and adequate compensation will be given to him to put his life back on track.
Background
The Ayawaso West Wagon by-election took place on 31 January 2019 after the death of the incumbent MP Emmanuel Kyeremanteng Agarko on 21 November 2018. Lydia Alhassan of the New patriotic Party won. Violence erupted in the area of the La-Bawaleshie polling station two hours after the election had started, though there was no death recorded eighteen people were wounded by gunshot. Masked men alleged to be National Security operatives clashed with alleged NDC thugs.
